Lynchburg's first ever James River Cultural Arts Festival runs thru Sunday, February 5.   The festival will feature local playwrights, performers and musicians.   The event will be somewhat of a history lesson, highlighting struggles of black Americans.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors for performances Feb. 2-3, and $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors for performances Feb. 4-5. Most performances are about an hour.

Here is the lineup:

Feb. 2 & 3 at 7:30 p.m. - "Sojourner" at the Academy of Fine Arts.

Feb 3 at 10 p.m. - "7 Hills Improv" at the Holiday Inn Downtown.

Feb 3 at 9:30 p.m. - UNRAVEL in Rm. 803 at the Holiday Inn Downtown.

 

Feb 4 at noon - "A Conversation with Eli Harris" at the Academy of Fine Arts.

Feb 4 at 3 p.m.- "Flat Stanley" at the Academy of Fine Arts.

Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. - "I Know the Secret" at the Academy of Fine Arts.  

Feb 4 at 10 p.m. - RECONCILING SPIRITS in Rm. 803 at the Holiday Inn Downtown.

 

Feb 5 at 3 p.m. - "Pretty Fire" at the Academy of Fine Arts.

 

The Kazim Temple Shrine Circus is back at the Roanoke Civic Center Feb. 2 – 5.  Bring the family to see the clowns, acrobats, trapeze acts, and animals.   $16 for adults and $8 for children younger than 12. You can get tickets at the Roanoke Civic Center's website or at the box office.

 

Amazement Square is hosting an indoor fitness session Saturday, Feb. 4.  It's from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., you and your kids can learn fun fitness activities you can do inside like yoga, aerobics and also learn how to check your pulse and find a healthy heart rate.

 

In Danville, soak up this great weather in Ballou Park - Feb. 4 for the annual Ice Bowl Disc Golf Competition.  The charity event benefits the United Way.  Runs 9a to 2p.   The registration fee is $20 and you can register the day of.

 

Winterfest Beach Bash - Friday - music from Project 4 and The Part Time Party Time Band.   Proceeds benefit the Penguin Club's community service projects. 6 p.m.    $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Salem Civic Center.    375-3057.

 

Dive into the fun for Tons of Fun at Tanglewood Mall - Saturday - Feb 4 from 10a to 4p.  A day of FREE indoor games, storytelling rides, costumed characters, hands-on activities, and entertainment.   Bring the family.   Sponsored by Roanoke Co Parks, Recreation and Tourism.  387-6455.

 

Best In Show Exhibit Reception - this annual fundraiser for the Roanoke Valley SPCA features more than 200 works depicting pets and animals.   The winner of "Best in Show" will be featured on the cover of the 2013 Pet Calendar.  Friday at 6:30 p.m.    Children 12 and younger, $1; adults, $5.   Taubman Museum of Art, 110 Salem Ave., Roanoke. 339-9502.

 

Star City Roller Girls Bowler Derby - Friday evening - featuring bowling,  silent auctions,  and more.   9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.   $20 includes unlimited bowling and shoe rental.   Hilltop Lanes, 5918 Williamson Road, Roanoke
